Make a Smilebox slideshow So this weekend we were off to Wells, Maine and it was a beautiful weekend. We started out on Friday night after dinner building a campfire and "fire-ing" up the TV to watch the Patriot's pre-season game! Then on Saturday we toured Wells Beach, York Beach, Kennebuck and Kennebuckport, ME. We took a "lobster" boat tour to see how they catch lobster. We stopped at about 5 traps and they hauled them up to see what was inside. For my southern friends, you will see a bouy floating in one of the pictures - they are attached to the lobster traps. In Maine you can have 800 traps at a time. The traps go to the bottom of the ocean. The bouys are colored coated so each lobsterman recognizes his own traps. The lobsters must be thrown back in if they are less than 3 1/2 inches long or longer than 5 inches. They must measure each lobster before keeping it. They can't keep female lobsters that are with eggs - they have to be thrown back in. Also if the female is pregnant - the lobster fishermen make a notch under her belly and she can never be kept again. The last picture is one of the Bush compound in Kennebuckport. Anyway - camping is fun and this was our 2nd favorite place we have been so far - we will keep looking till we find our favorite! Come visit and we will take you camping with us as we are beginning to get good at it! Love to all... |
